Hydraulic Fracturing 101
If you say hydraulic fracturing, you are referring to a process of removing resources found underground such as geothermal energy, water, oil, and natural gas. This can be done at very long distances some even reaching several thousands of feet.
Once the fracture desired is attained, the faults will then be pushed with the use of a propping chemical. Doing this is crucial to process to keep the faults opened once the fluids must be pumped. When the entire hydraulic fracturing process is done, the fluids used during the process goes up because of the build-up of the pressure found inside the structure. These fluids must first be collected in tanks and pits before they will be disposed or recycled.
People who work in hydraulic fracturing call the fracturing fluid that they have stored as flowback. Surface water discharge and underground injection are the two main methods of getting rid of this flowback. When the people who are in charge of either of these processes fail to get the job right, then the environment will have to suffer from its consequences.
